Recovery is the single most important part of any training or exercise ritual. The whole purpose of recovery in exercise is to allow your muscles to repair and to soothe muscles that are sore from your workout. There are also different things that you can do during the recovery stage to help move the process along and come out ready to perform better. We recommend you incorporate 3 main pillars into your rest stage; massage, sauna and soaking.

FOR ATHLETES:

MASSAGE - ROLFING

Rolfing Structural Integration has the ability to dramatically alter a person's posture and structure. Rolfing aims to restore flexibility, revitalize your energy and leave you feeling more comfortable in your body. The genius of the work rests on Dr. Rolf's insight that the body is more at ease and functions most effectively when its structure is balanced in gravity. Pro-athletes who have benefited from Rolfing include Michelle Kwan, Charles Barkley and Joe Greene.

SAUNA - HAMMAM

If you’re an athlete, the benefits of increased endurance are clear, as your level of endurance serves as an accurate measurement for many aspects of your overall health. The hammam, also known as the Turkish hammam or Turkish bath can be categorized as a wet relative of the sauna. A Hammam sauna temperature is around 120 degrees Fahrenheit built with 100% humidity. The humidity makes it feel hotter than what the actual temperature is. Hyperthemic conditioning improves endurance because it encourages adjustments in your body that make it easier for you to perform when your body temperature is elevated.

SOAK - SWEAT & REST

Sweat and Rest is in the business of “slowing down”. Of turning chaos into harmony. Of turning rock bottoms into awakenings. Of turning “ouches” into “ahhs”. I’m sure you get it by now. With stress-relieving and hydrating magnesium, “ooommm”-inducing essential oils, sea salt (which we believe is the superfood of the earth) and a unique hand-collected intention stone with each purchase — it’s basically therapy in a pretty package.

“I personally love this soak,” says Pursoma founder, Shannon Vaughn “I created it because I wanted to make a bath that was perfect to soak in after I exercised. It has a blend that I think is very cooling to the body after the work out. Its star ingredient is raw magnesium flakes that have been distilled into oil. Magnesium is amazing for sleep and helping muscles relax.”

FOR YOGIS:

MASSAGE - THAI

A unique blend of assisted yoga, passive stretching, and pressing massage movements, Thai massage is more energizing than other forms of massage. It's a little bit like yoga without doing the work, as the therapist moves and stretches you in a sequence of postures, usually on a mat on the floor. Like shiatsu, Thai massage aligns the energies of the body. The massage therapist uses rhythmic compression along the body's energy lines to reduce stress and improve flexibility and range of motion. It is done fully clothed. This type of massage can improve range of motion and back pain, and has been shown to be useful in reducing anxiety. Be warned though, this is not a relaxing, spa like experience.

SAUNA - INFRARED

An infrared sauna is quite different from all the rest because there is absolutely no humidity. This sauna heats up a person’s body temperature and envelops your body in a heat glove. You feel more relaxed and rested after you’re done, and the heat helps relieve sore muscles and improves your overall health and well-being.

SOAK - APRÈS SAVASANA

Extend your savasana and induce a state of tranquil bliss with tension-melting sea salt, skin-softening seaweed, and soul-soothing aromatherapy. Après Savasana is where five star spa quality thalassotherapy and aromatherapy meet - in your bath, on your time. NAMASTE.

“The inspiration for this soak came to me after leaving a yoga class in New York City,” says Shannon “I had finished this wonderfully relaxing class, and the moment I walked onto the city street, the calm immediately disappeared. My goal was to create a soak that you could go home and use after yoga and then go to sleep.”

FOR GYM RATS:

MASSAGE - DEEP TISSUE

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It's used for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

SAUNA - TRADITIONAL FINNISH SAUNA

This specific sauna is wood-lined and is most commonly known as the traditional "sauna". Inside of the sauna, you can find heated rocks, a bucket of water and a ladle. When a person sits in a sauna, their heart rate increases and blood vessels widen. This increases circulation and may help reduce muscle soreness, improve joint movement, and ease pain.

SOAK - RESURRECTION

Resurrection detox bath treatment energizes, combats fatigue, restores drained essential minerals. This bath is no joke. Go primal. Made from pure, raw, vegan ingredients this revitalizing and deeply stimulating bath helps to unburden the body from toxins such as environmental irritants, overindulgence, and technological pollution. Reclaim your energy.

"We all know that surge of hunger we get after evening exercise. We tend to overeat and undo all the healthy movement our body just exerted. My answer to that is: don’t stop the detox. Your body is sweating, your circulation is moving, and your endorphins are strong. Keep it going and take a seaweed treatment bath. Drink 1 liter of water while you soak 20 minutes and the body continues to sweat. Your open pores will rapidly absorb the sea salt minerals and soothing seaweed and algae blend. Then rest for 10 minutes after the bath and feel your heart go back to its normal rate. After this ritual, you will find you make much better and more balanced food choices."
